貓王的福音歌曲

　　因著貓王皮禮士利在二十世紀五十年代開始將
搖擺樂帶至高峰， 人們於是把他尊稱為「搖擺樂之
王」。但一直以來，他被視為反叛的象徵，加上他那
令人爭議擺動身體的台風，使他成為五、六十年代時
髦青年的模仿對象，當時但凡模仿貓王那樣打扮的年
青人會被稱為「飛哥」。然而，我們不可忽略皮禮士
利的成長背景，其實基督教教義與福音歌曲對他有著
深遠的影響。由於他母親是位敬虔的基督徒，他自小
深受母親的信仰所影響，並受浸加入教會。雖然貓王
並沒有受過正統的音樂訓練，但他自幼就在教會詩班
內唱詩，那是他最早的音樂啟蒙。因著密西西比州是
黑人聚居的地區。再者，他在十三歲時又隨父母遷往
孟斐斯( M e m p h i s ) ， 故他深受黑人的
節奏怨曲、鄉謠音樂與及南方白人福音詩歌所影響，
形成他獨特的音樂風格。貓王於一九五六年憑藉一曲
“ H e a r t b r e a k H o t e l ” 打進
美國B i l l b o a r d 流行榜、鄉謠榜、西部
音樂榜和節奏怨曲榜的榜首；揭開他在樂壇上傳奇生
涯的序幕。

　　此刻身價非同凡響的他，對福音歌曲的鍾愛並無
絲毫改變， 他更把握機會上電視台向廣大的觀眾介
紹福音詩歌。就以一九五七年他應邀在評價極高的
E d S u l l i v a n S h o w 擔綱演出為例，
他堅持演唱福音詩歌（ 由男聲四重伴唱）
P e a c e I n T h e V a l l e y ， 作
為獻給他母親的歌曲。貓王沿用這種福音詩歌男聲四
重唱伴唱方式長達二十年。直到他在五八至六零年
到德國服兵役後， 便轉向電影界發展。六十年代後
期， 皮禮士利全然投身演唱福音歌曲； 音樂事業把
他帶到另一個靈性的高峰。他一生共獲提名格林美
獎( G r a m m y A w a r d s ) 十四次，卻
只獲獎三次，都是與福音歌曲極有淵源的。他在
一九六七年出版《祢真偉大》
( H o w G r e a t T h o u A r t ) 詩歌大
碟中，充滿靈性與感情地唱出How G r e a t
T h o u A r t , I n T h e Garden,
Somebody bigger than you and I 等經典聖詩，
替他贏得格林美最佳聖樂表演獎(Best S a c r e d
P e r f o r m a n c e ) ； 其後， 再次憑著
一九七二年灌錄的《祂觸摸我》
( H e T o u c h e d M e ) ， 這大碟收錄了
H e T o u c h e d Me , A m a z i n g G r a c e ,
R e a c h O u t T o Jesus等著名聖詩，榮獲

流露出對神的敬拜與讚美。


　　貓王其中一個鮮為人知的貢獻就是透過演唱會去
歌頌神，甚至透過福音詩歌去傳揚基督。據一位曾替
他伴唱的成員表示， 有一次， 他在拉斯維加斯演出
前， 看到E l v i s 跪下向神禱告， 求神使用他唱出感動
歌迷的信息，並表示願在舞台上將最好的賜給歌迷，
就像傳道人的心態一樣。這可能正是貓王在演唱會中
具有無窮吸引力的秘訣。況且，他懂得在成功之中謙
卑，有一次，歌迷稱讚他說：「Elvis，你是王。」貓
王立刻更正地他說：「不！只有基督是王。」

　　很可惜地，貓王皮禮士利一九七七年八月十六日
因心臟病發死在家中，在世寄居四十二年。二千年出
版的一輯He Touched Me –The Gospel Music Of
E l v i s P r e s l e y 雙D V D 光碟，
透過訪問貓王生前的樂隊隊友與其他朋友，展現出
皮禮士利的屬靈背景和福音詩歌才是他的音樂和
靈感的根源。同年十一月廿八日，貓王被選入福音
音樂名人堂，成為全球唯一同時位列搖滾、鄉謠與福音
三座名人堂的歌手。貓王在樂壇上之所以取得空前的成
就，也許是因為他懂得為神歌唱的緣故。

　　在這個對貓王解構的過程中，筆者感到最寶貴的
就是讓我們認識到這位流行樂壇上的搖擺樂之王，竟
然同樣在福音歌曲的傳播上具有重要的成就，可同時
被譽為福音歌王；也認識到這位被視為「反叛符號」
的樂壇天王巨星，竟然有很深的基督教屬靈背景與敬
虔的一面。

　　貓王最後一次巡迴演唱時曾這樣說：「直
至我們再相會，願神賜福你。」但願我們將來能夠在
天堂與這位福音歌王再相會，並與他一同歌頌神。
